Proper Vape Juice Ratios Are Key!

Posted on

It would be easy to assume that vaping ratios don’t matter. Of course, this would be a false assumption, because the proper vape juice ratio is the key to a premium throat hit. By “premium”, this refers to taste, flavor, and the thickness of the clouds produced. Regardless of your experience level, it is important to understand PG (Propylene glycol) and VG (Vegetable Glycerin) ratios before vaping. PG/VG ratios are the primary ingredients of the e-juice. When balancing these ratios, different factors come into play, beginning with the quality of the throat hit desired. Most vapers prefer a stronger hit, so they are very particular about the flavors of their vape juice. Because the juice affects how it was absorbed in the tank, based on the proper ratio of PG to VG, this is something that needs to be looked at. PG is thinner, while the sweeteners in VG make it much thicker.

So, how do you know the ratios? Well, typically, vape juice comes pre-mixed from the company with ratios of PG to VG standard at 50/50, 60/40 and 70/30 for instances. Then there is determining if you want nicotine, or no nicotine and what levels. Nicotine levels too are industry measured: extra high (25mg or more), high (17mg-24mg), medium (12mg-16mg), low (1mg-11mg) or none (0mg). Once that is decided, then it is all about the flavor. The added flavors are a bit tricky, because the ratio variables are matched against the concentration of nicotine. For every 10ml of vape juice, that is a 100%, then the ratio mixture is 95% to 80% PG/VG and the remaining variable is 5% to 20%, of concentrated flavor or whatever the chosen nicotine level.

For those who prefer to create their own vape juice flavor, DIY vaping , that is where vaping ratios play the biggest role. Beginners are probably better off trying the pre-mixed concentrates. This is because the ratios are 1ml of flavor measured against the required amount of PG/VG to nicotine. Usually for every 1ml, the ratio of PG/VG would be equal at 4.5ml each with 180mg of nicotine. Then the strength of the flavor and the clouds would be based on testing the mixture. The other factors included in ratios are the PH levels of the e-juice and the quality of the device being used (electronic cigarette or MOD) .

Vape juice ratios have one basic function; to deliver purity of the flavor, for the throat hit and the quality of clouds desired. If the ratios aren’t properly balanced, this could result in a burning sensation in the throat or a burnt aftertaste. For a complete breakdown of the ratios, consider this: 100% VG is best for those determined to have a PG allergy, and 100% PG produces the strongest throat hits and a robust flavor. Most beginners are probably best with 50% PG and 50% VG or 70/30. If you are interested in chasing the biggest clouds, then go for 70% VG/30% PG. It is considered the ideal ratio for an overall pleasurable vaping session. The 70/30 ratio provides a good throat hit that isn’t overpowered by too much flavor, because equal amounts of the ingredients are inhaled with each hit. Keep in mind that VG can clog your coils, due to the sweeteners. PG is thinner and synthetic, while VG is organic in nature, but much thicker.
