We all know that vape juice contains four ingredients: vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol, nicotine and flavoring extracts. We also know that the balance of ingredients is crucial if you want to have an e-liquid that can be, well vaped. If the balance isn’t right, your vape juice will either burn in the tank, be flavorless or be so thick that it’s practically unvapeable.
Now, many vapers wonder if they can add a little bit of water or flavor boost to their e-liquid. After all, wouldn’t adding a little bit of an ingredient throw off that whole balance, leaving you with a vape juice that can’t be enjoyed? As you’ll see, the answer is actually a bit complicated. But, we’ve made things simple for you so that you can figure out when it’s okay to add water and flavor boost to an e-liquid.
Why You Might Want to Add Water and Flavor Boost to a Vape Juice
#1: Your Bottle is Running Low
Let’s say that your bottle of e-liquid is running extremely low, and you don’t have time to run to the vape shop in town. In that case, you might want to add a little water and a little flavor boost in order to stretch out that last little bit that’s in the bottle.
#2: Nicotine is Too Strong
Another reason to add some water and flavor boost to a vape juice is because the nicotine is just too harsh or too strong. The idea is that you can water down the nicotine with these two ingredients without sacrificing flavor or consistency.
Can You Add Water and Flavor Boost an E-Liquid Simultaneously?
The Ratio of Ingredients
Yes, adding water and flavor boost to your e-liquid can be done, but know that if done improperly, you’ll throw off the balance of ingredients. We’re mostly talking about propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin here. These two ingredients need to be balanced out in order for your e-liquid to become those luscious clouds that you know and love.
It’s All About the Quantities
To avoid throwing off the general balance of your vape juice, go with small quantities of both water and flavor boost. With both of these ingredients, a little goes a long way indeed. Try a couple drops of each and see how that works for you. You can add a couple more drops of each if you’re trying to stretch out the last bit of e-liquid in your supply.
Distilled Water is Crucial
It’s extremely important that you only use distilled water when stretching out your vape juice. Distilled water contains none of the chemicals found in tap water. Inhaling chlorine and other chemicals commonly found in tap water can make you feel unwell if you’re a heavy vaper. You can find distilled water in any grocery store, and it’s very inexpensive. Consider pouring it into small squeeze bottles so that you don’t make a mess when adding it to your e-liquid.
Note the VG/PG Ratio
Typically, a high VG e-liquid responds best to a little bit of water, because vegetable glycerin is thick while propylene glycol is thin. If you’re adding water to a high PG e-liquid, the formula might become so thin that it burns before it gets a chance to become vapor.
Bottom Line: You Can Absolutely Add Water and a Flavor Booster to an E-Liquid
At the end of the day, it all comes down to the way in which you go about deciding how your vape session(s) will be. Make sure that you don’t add too much of either ingredient. Not only that, but always make sure that you go with distilled water and a flavor boost that’s made with high-quality extracts.

Also, they tend to be less reliable than the ones that are made by reputable hardware [...]
