Has Anyone Ever Overdosed on CBD?

Posted by David on

Today, we’ll be answering one of the most frequently asked questions regarding CBD: Has anyone ever overdosed? This should clear up most of your concerns regarding the safety of taking this cannabinoid on a regular basis.

Has Anyone Ever Overdosed on CBD?

There are no known cases of someone overdosing on CBD. There are no known reports of fatal CBD overdose.  However it is always best to consult with your doctor/physician before taking CBD to make sure there are not any potential side effects or issues. So, once and for all, you can rest assured that you will not die simply because you took a dose of CBD. Now, let’s explain why this is the case.

Is It Possible to Overdose on CBD?

CBD feeds the body’s endocannabinoid system, which is in charge of ensuring that every bodily system’s processes are regulated. This means that the endocannabinoid system is largely responsible for regulating things like mood, pain levels, immune function and even muscular health. The endocannabinoid system is supposed to produce cannabinoids itself, but many of us are deficient, which is why we take CBD. CBD is a phytocannabinoid, meaning that it’s a cannabinoid derived from plants. When consumed, the endocannabinoid system perceives it as exactly the same as a self-produced cannabinoid and uses it accordingly. Because the endocannabinoid system relies on cannabinoids, it accumulates excess levels of CBD in the body for later use. This is why CBD is considered nontoxic.

Need more proof? One study found that patients taking 1500mg of CBD showed no adverse health effects which is remarkable considering the fact that 1500mg is an outrageously high dose. Bear in mind that virtually no one needs to take such a high dose daily as positive effects have the potential to be felt with far lower doses. After all, a 1500mg tincture is considered a high potency, and it’s supposed to last for an entire month, meaning that a person only consumes about 33mg per day.

Are There Side Effects of Taking High Doses of CBD?

Now, that doesn’t mean that no one will ever experience any adverse effects from taking high doses of CBD. Everyone has a differently bodily chemistry, and thus responds to things in slightly different ways. Some people may be naturally allergic to cannabis, and, therefore, they must avoid CBD altogether.

Still, the only really noted side effect of taking a high dose of CBD is sleepiness, which, as you can imagine, isn’t the worst thing in the world. Still, because of this potential side effect, it’s recommended that those who are new to taking CBD first consume it in the evening when they do not have any responsibilities.

What Can Make High Doses of CBD Dangerous?

Now, bear in mind that we said that you can’t overdose on CBD, but that’s assuming that the CBD is pure. Also, most CBD products contain more than just this cannabinoid. So, with that being said, lets discuss the handful of ways in which you must be careful before taking a high amount of CBD.

Factor #1: Low-Quality or Impure CBD

Legitimate CBD companies thoroughly test their batches of CBD extract for quality and purity. But, because the CBD industry isn’t totally regulated yet, many companies are getting away with not testing their batches, and therefore selling impure, low-quality CBD. When you consume low-quality or impure CBD, you run the risk of consuming impurities that may be considered dangerous, such as pesticides and heavy metals. Of course, you’d have to take a very large dose to experience negative effects.

Factor #2: Fake CBD Products

Of course, in every industry, it’s possible to come across counterfeit products from time to time, and this exists in the CBD market just as much as every other. So, be careful when shopping for CBD in order to make sure that you’re buying a legitimate product. A full-on fake CBD product could contain any number of ingredients that are unsafe to ingest.

Factor #3: Other Ingredients

Additionally, some companies that are less committed to quality may use relatively unsafe ingredients in addition to their CBD extract, which means that you may experience negative effects from these ingredients rather than the CBD itself.

Factor #4: Medication Interactions

Lastly, in rare cases, a person may experience a negative interaction between CBD and a medication that they are on.

As You Can See, There’s No Reason to Fear Overdosing on CBD

This cannabinoid is widely considered nontoxic and completely safe to take. Still, because the CBD market varies so much, you always want to make sure that you are taking a product that is specially formulated to be safe to consume regularly. Use the guide above to buy high-quality CBD that’s safe to take on a daily basis.
