Not All Identical Milligram Strengths Work the Same Way

Posted by David on

Getting into CBD for the first time is a bit of a journey. First, you discover that there are many different types of products on the market, and so you must pick the one that’s best suited to your needs. Then, you discover that there are different kinds of CBD extracts and different strains, and each one may affect you differently. Then, you learn that each product has its own unique strength, and that strength is very important to consider when it comes to whether or not you’ll end up with the results that you desire.

One thing that a lot of CBD newbies wonder is if a certain strength affects them in the same manner regardless of the form in which they are taking their CBD. For example, does consuming 33mg in the form of a tincture do the same thing that 33mg worth of edibles would?

Knowing how CBD strengths affect you based on the type of product that you choose has a lot to do with whether or not you’ll end up satisfying your unique needs with hemp. Today, we’re going to be explaining how strengths can vary in terms of the way in which they affect you depending on the method of administration.

Most Popular CBD Products that Have Different Strength Levels

Before we discuss the way in which the same strength can vary in terms of effectiveness from product to product, let’s first briefly explain the four most popular products that are on the market today. Bear in mind that when we talk about the strength, we are referring to the number of milligrams of CBD in a particular product.

Tinctures: CBD tinctures are considered oral products, although they are absorbed into the bloodstream in a unique manner. Tinctures come in dropper bottles, and the dropper cap gets filled with liquid that is then placed beneath the tongue. It is held there for a minute before being swallowed, which allows the tincture to absorb into the sublingual tissue.

Vape Juices: CBD vape juices, or vape oils, are e-liquids that are infused with hemp extract. They are inhaled into the lungs, and require a vaporizer device that gently heats the e-liquid so that it can evaporate easily.

Edibles: Edibles are edible goods that are infused with hemp extract, and they most commonly come in the form of candies.

Topicals: Topical CBD products are unique in that they are not consumed internally. Rather, they are massaged into the skin, and the compounds in hemp break through the skin tissue to enter the muscles and joints. They can come in the form of lotions, creams, gels, salves and more.

Do Identical Milligram Strengths Affect Me in the Same Manner Regardless of the Type of Product I Use?

Here’s the thing – CBD is absorbed into the body in a different manner depending on the method of application. For instance, consuming CBD in the form of a tincture allows the hemp to be absorbed more gradually than if you were to vape it. And consuming CBD in the form of an edible produces the slowest absorption rate because the CBD must slowly pass through the digestive system and get processed by the liver before it can deliver potential effects.

Because different CBD products absorb into the body differently, the same strength of CBD can have different effects depending on how you take it. For instance, vaping 2 milligrams of CBD can satisfy a user, while consuming 2mg in the form of a tincture can produce basically no effects whatsoever.

Typical Strengths Per Type of Product

Now, let’s break down the four products that we discussed earlier, and give you an idea of the standard range of milligrams that you can find for each one.

Tinctures

CBD tinctures are usually available in 30ml bottles. Most commonly, you’ll find a range of 500-1500mg strengths on the market. Some tinctures are produced with higher strengths and others with lower ones.

Edibles

CBD edibles, such as gummy candies, are usually available in anywhere from 2 to 25 milligrams per piece.

Vape Oils

Like tinctures, CBD vape oils often come in 30ml bottles. Most CBD vape juices provide 1 to 2 milligrams per puff, with some high-potency ones offering up to 10mg per puff.

Topicals

There’s no “typical” range of strengths when it comes to topicals, because topicals do not absorb into the body internally, and so they do not affect the body in the same manner. Therefore, you can find a wide range of milligrams, and you can choose the best one that will suit your needs depending on what your intention is when using a CBD topical.

Choosing the Right Number of Milligrams for You

Now that you know this information, let’s talk about how you can choose the right strength for your specific needs. The first thing that you need to do is determine the purpose of taking CBD. Are you trying to potentially treat a severe, chronic issue, or are you just trying to get a daily dose of CBD because you heard that it’s rich in nutrients? Your unique needs will determine the strength that you should choose, as higher concentrations are typically associated with more severe symptoms.

Also, we recommend starting with a loser strength when you first get started. For instance, a 500mg tincture is typically good for beginners. This allows them to get used to the way that CBD feels in the body. Then, from there, they can increase the strength as needed until they find what works for them.

See the Differences

Now you have a better understanding for how identical milligram strengths can produce different effects and levels of effectiveness depending on the type of product you’re using. What’s most important is that you do your research and determine which strength is best suited for your needs depending on whether you’re consuming a CBD tincture, vape oil, edible or topical. This way, you’ll be able to customize your CBD experience according to your unique needs.
