What are the Differences Between CBD and Hemp E-Liquids?
Posted by
onThe CBD industry is booming more than ever before, which means that the market currently offers an absolutely mind-boggling number of vaping products that allow us to inhale the compounds in the hemp plant so that we can experience their potential effects in a uniquely potent and fast-acting way. With so many e-liquids to choose from, it can be hard to know which are the most likely to produce the results that we desire. One factor that complicates things is the fact that there is so much terminology to learn in order to make the best purchase for our needs.
We’ll be clearing up something that commonly confuses new hemp enthusiasts, which is the difference between CBD-based and hemp-based e-liquids.
What These Types of E-Liquids Share in Common
Being e-liquids, both are vaporized in the same manner, and there is no difference when it comes to the types of hardware that they require to be vaped. They both come in a wide range of flavors, strengths, and formulas, and can contain any number of ingredients.
CBD vs. Hemp: Is There a Difference?
Now, let’s make one thing clear which causes a lot of confusion. CBD and hemp are commonly used interchangeably throughout the industry. This is because CBD is the leading compound in the hemp plant. But the hemp plant has many compounds that companies may put into their vape juices as well.
So, often, you’ll find products marked as “CBD e-liquid” and “hemp e-liquid” actually being exactly the same thing. This is why it’s important to look through the ingredients and read the product description of an e-juice thoroughly rather than simply relying on the product’s name.
Differences to Really Keep in Mind
Now, let’s get into the differences between CBD and hemp e-liquids from a technical standpoint.
CBD E-Liquids
If a product is described as a “CBD e-liquid,” this would technically imply that the active ingredient in it is CBD isolate. This is a type of extract derived from the hemp plant that only retains cannabidiol, which means that the CBD has been isolated and removed from the plant’s chemical composition.
CBD isolate e-liquids can be quite useful, as they supply the body with a uniquely concentrated amount of cannabidiol. But bear in mind that if you go with a CBD isolate e-liquid, you may miss out on other compounds in the hemp plant that could be just as useful for your particular wellness goals. CBD is a cannabinoid which aids in the body’s self-regulating process through the endocannabinoid system, which sends cannabidiol to various receptors in the body to promote a state of equilibrium.
However, CBD is just one of many cannabinoids that play a role in this unique maintenance process. Further, the hemp plant has other compounds that can be useful, such as terpenes, which are compounds found in a plant’s essential oils which have properties that may do everything from fight inflammation to calm stress.
Hemp E-Liquids
A hemp e-liquid technically has more compounds than just CBD. We just described the variety of compounds that naturally occur in hemp, and so you can now understand that while CBD is great on its own, some people may desire a wider variety of cannabinoids and terpenes.
Hemp e-liquids can come in one of two forms: broad spectrum or full spectrum.
- Broad spectrum hemp e-liquids will have the hemp plant’s entire chemical composition except for THC, which has been isolated and removed from the final product. The amount of THC in the hemp plant accounts for only about 0.3% of the plant’s total composition, and therefore can’t get you high, but some people wish to abstain from it regardless.
- Full spectrum hemp e-liquids will give you the complete chemical composition of the hemp plant, including that trace amount of THC. The appeal of this type of e-liquid is that it provides the body with the entourage effect, which is a unique synergistic effect that results from taking the hemp plant’s chemical composition in its entirety. It may offer more potency and effectiveness than other types of hemp extracts.
The Choice is Yours
Ultimately, we can only know which type of e-liquid is right for our body and our needs by experimentation. There are all kinds of e-liquids on the market today that come in CBD isolate, broad spectrum, and full spectrum varieties. So, we encourage you to explore what each one can offer so that you can come up with the routine that best suits your needs.
Don’t forget, however, that you also need to ensure that you’re buying a quality e-juice no matter what type of hemp extract it contains, so make sure that the company that you’re buying from is trustworthy, has a good reputation and provides third-party lab reports that break down the chemical composition as well as the overall quality of the product.
