Proper Hydration is Key When Vaping CBD

Posted by David on

As you know, CBD comes in many different forms ranging from high-quality topical creams to very effective oral tinctures. One of the most popular ways to consume CBD, however, is in the form of an e-liquid that’s vaped using a vaporizer device. Vaping CBD provides the user with fast relief while giving them a very potent experience.

Each type of CBD consumption affects the body in its own unique way. Interestingly, many people who vape CBD report that they feel a little dehydrated afterwards. So, can CBD actually dehydrate you? And if so, what can you do about it? We’ll be explaining the relationship between vaping CBD and dehydration so that you can stay on top of your health while you maintain your hobby.

Can CBD Make Me Dehydrated?

In short, no, CBD cannot dehydrate you. There’s nothing in CBD that dehydrates the body. However, many users would argue that, saying that they experience dry mouth after consuming any type of cannabis product.

That’s why it’s important to note that dry mouth does not automatically imply dehydration, and that’s especially true when it comes to cannabis. To understand why, we have to explain how CBD interacts with the body. The body has an endocannabinoid system that sends cannabinoids to cannabinoid receptors throughout the body. Each of these receptors controls a specific bodily function such as pain tolerance or general mood.

And, as you may have guessed, there are receptors that control saliva production. In fact, it’s the CB2 receptors that dictate how much saliva we produce. Now, this process of cannabinoids bonding with receptors is a good thing as it promotes homeostasis by regulating how the processes perform. When CBD bonds with CB2 receptors along the salivary glands, however, it instructs them to produce less saliva. While this doesn’t actually improve our health, it doesn’t mean that something is wrong or that we’re dehydrated.

So, to put it simply, just because CBD makes your mouth dry doesn’t mean that you’re dehydrated. The two conditions, in this case, are absolutely unrelated.

So, Why Do I Feel So Thirsty After Vaping CBD?

Well, now that you know that CBD doesn’t dehydrate you, you’re probably wondering why you still might feel dehydrated after vaping a CBD e-liquid. Well, that probably has more to do with the other ingredients that are in the e-liquid, not the CBD itself. Typically, CBD vape oils consist of CBD extract, propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin. These last two ingredients are crucial as they allow the e-liquid to become vapor when a coil applies heat to the liquid.

However, both of these ingredients have a small chance of dehydrating you. Still, that’s really only the case if you’re a very heavy chain-vaper.

Also, some CBD vape juices out there contain additional ingredients such as flavoring extracts or even nicotine. These ingredients can also be dehydrating on the body. This is especially true with nicotine as it’s known to cause dehydration when consumed in large amounts.

However, it’s important to note that it’s highly unlikely that vaping CBD will dehydrate you to the point that you’re in serious trouble.

How to Stay Hydrated as a Regular CBD Vaper

Now that you know that vaping an e-liquid can mildly dehydrate you, it’s time to discuss the ways in which you can combat and prevent that potential dehydration so that you can feel great while you get your CBD vape game on.

Drink Before You Get Thirsty

If you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated, as the old adage goes. So, make sure that you drink water regularly throughout the day in order to avoid getting to the point of feeling parched.

Don’t Vape a Lot at Once

It’s commonly believed that chain-vaping will leave you feeling more dehydrated than vaping here and there. You can vape the same amount throughout the day; however, it’s best to space out those puffs. The theory is that chain-vaping prevents your body from getting a chance to replenish and redistribute its fluids.

Bring Water with You Always

You should always make a point to bring water bottles with you when you’re not at home. This way, you’ll never reach a point where you suddenly feel dehydrated. This is especially wise if you vape your CBD when you’re not at home.

Stick to High-Quality Vape Oils

It’s best to buy your CBD vape oils from reputable companies that don’t use cheap ingredients such as The Vape Mall. Why? Because companies that use cheap, low-quality filler ingredients might be putting additives in your e-liquids that have a dehydrating effect on the body.

Just Still Drink Plenty of Water

While it’s not true that CBD itself can dehydrate you, it is possible to feel dehydrated after vaping CBD oil because of the other ingredients that are in the e-liquid. And, of course, CBD can give you dry mouth even though it’s not actually dehydrating you. The bottom line is that it’s always important to stay on top of your hydration levels by drinking plenty of water.
