How to Repair a Cracked Silicone or Glass Pipe

Posted by David on

Nothing is more devastating to the daily hemp enthusiast than a cracked pipe. We know that accidents happen, and that even though we try our best to take care of our precious pipes, it’s not totally uncommon to drop them or knock them over from time to time.

The good news is that a crack in your pipe, whether it be made of silicone or glass, is not the end of the world. There are a couple of methods that can fix it, given the crack isn’t too bad.

Option #1: Duct Tape (Yes, We’re Serious)

The first option that can work is duct tape. We know that this may not be the most aesthetically pleasing way to go about things, but if you’ve ever used duct tape to make a repair, you know that it can definitely get the job done better than a lot of other materials that are out there.

Using duct tape to repair a crack really couldn’t be easier. The key is making sure that you cut a small enough piece that it can sufficiently cover the crack without interfering with your ability to handle it. Be sure to really press down on the duct tape to make a solid seal that won’t let out any air.

Option #2: Silicone Glue

The second option is silicone glue, which can work on both glass and, of course, silicone. This is available at any hardware store, and make sure that you choose one that’s high in quality as it’s more likely to do the job as needed. Simply apply a small amount of the silicone glue along the crack and carefully make sure that you’ve thoroughly covered every exposed piece. Then, give it a couple of hours to completely dry before using it or handling it.

Things to Keep in Mind

Very easy things to remember:

#1: If It’s Glass, Make Sure You Thoroughly Remove All the Shards and Debris

If you’re dealing with a glass pipe, make sure there are no shards inside the pipe as this can be dangerous.

#2: If It’s Too Broken, Just Buy a New One

In some cases, the crack is too big to justify fixing it rather than just buying a new one.

#3: Handle Your Pipe with Care

Once your pipe has been fixed, handle it more carefully than you usually do as the cracked area may be weaker.

Cracked Herbal Pipes Happen, Regardless of Their Size, Material and Owner

As you can see, a cracked pipe can potentially be saved, given that the crack is contained enough and that you know how to go about fixing it. Use this guide to choose your method of choice, and bear in mind that in some cases, it’s just better to buy a new one.
