2023 Vape Battery Terms You Need to Know and Remember

Posted by David on

If you’ve been vaping for a while, you are probably aware of the fact that the battery that you use with your device matters a great deal. With so many different kinds of systems on the market today, there is a wider selection of batteries than ever before. This means that the consumer must pay extra attention to ensuring that the battery that they select is suitable for the device that they are using.

But, for many vapers, when they browse through the selection of vape batteries that’re on the market, they feel overwhelmed. This is because of the fact that in order to choose the right battery, one must know the terminology that is associated with it.

Vape Battery Terms to Know

Well, we are going to be discussing the most common battery-related lingo. By referring to this guide the next time you need to buy vape batteries, you’ll be able to know for certain that you are making the right choice for that particular setup.

Capacity (mAh)

When you shop for batteries for your vaping device, you likely see a number followed by “mAh”. This refers to the capacity of the battery, which is the maximum charge within the battery. The higher the battery, the more energy can be extracted from it when it’s in use. In simpler terms, the higher the capacity (mAh) of a battery, the more powerful it is.

Voltage (V)

Voltage refers to the pressure that pushes electrons through a circuit. Voltage is shortened to “V” in most batteries’ product descriptions. Again, to make it simple, it refers to how powerful a battery can be.

Variable Voltage (VV)/Variable Wattage (VW)

Both types control the power output of the device through the coils in the tank that deliver the e-liquid in the form of vapor.

High Voltage (HV)

Refers to any device that is over the threshold of 3.8 volts. High voltage units require substantial powerful batteries to operate.

Size

When browsing for vape batteries, you will see various numbers like 18650, 20700, 21700 and 26650. These numbers refer to the size of a battery, and the size is measured in terms of its diameter. The bigger the battery, the more energy it can store, which is why more powerful vaping devices require larger batteries.

Li-Ion (Lithium-Ion)

Li-ion, or lithium-ion batteries, are rechargeable batteries of a certain design. Standard vaping devices utilize lithium-ion batteries, and that is why they can be charged over and over again rather than discarded once the battery runs out of charge.

Lithium Polymer Batteries (Lipo)

These are a line of high-quality rechargeable batteries that contain lithium.

Integrated

When you see the term “integrated” in reference to a vape battery, it means that the battery is built into the device, and that, therefore, you don’t need to purchase separate batteries for your vaping setup. Most pod systems, for example, utilize integrated batteries. Some sub-ohm systems now utilize integrated batteries as well. Rather than charging the batteries separately, the user plugs their vaping device (mod) into their charger.

Dual

A lot of box mod systems utilize dual batteries, so this is a word that you will see frequently if this is the type of vaping setup that you enjoy. As you can imagine, “dual batteries” simply means that the device takes two batteries rather than one. It goes without saying that larger, more powerful vaping devices require more batteries because more batteries mean more power.

Connection

A battery connection refers to the points that connect to the device. There are small metal pieces on either side that must make contact with the connections of the device in order for the charge to run through the device properly. Battery connections, by the way, must be kept clean in order to provide your device with power.

Overheating/Overcharging

Refers to the action of your batteries overheating in the device that you are vaping with. Once this happens, they must be disposed of immediately.

Note: Batteries can also overheat if left in compatible charger over the time they are supposed to be charged. This is called “overcharging”.

Keep These Terms Handy

Vape battery lingo can be confusing if you don’t have a guide to refer to. Luckily, the guide above should make it quite easy to choose the perfect battery for your vaping needs. Study this guide thoroughly so that you can make the right purchase.
